Services Offered

Modern tools, precision design, and a careful, human touch;
that is the ethos here at Printed by Ray.

Laser Cutting

One of the primary services I offer is cutting and engraving using a CO2 laser cutter. This machine can create products with intricate, detailed designs out of materials such as wood and acrylic. An added benefit is that designs are easily reproduceable, so if you have a large order, or need to re-order at a later date, you can be assured that the look and quality will remain consistent.

UV Printing

Another service I offer is UV printing, which is less common in the marketplace. The UV printer allows full colour printing, including photos and gradients, on virtually any hard, flat surface, such as plastic, wood, glass, metal, and more. This gives you an advantage over similar processes like vinyl cut lettering, or print and cut vinyl, since it is printed directly on the material, and much more durable.

Additional Skills

Growth and development are core principles for myself and the business. In the course of meeting new customers and working on new projects, I’ve pushed myself to continuously acquire new skills that help expand my capabilities, including basic woodworking, painting, wood staining, and more.

If you have something in mind, but don’t see an example of it here, that just means you’re the first to request it. I’m always happy to learn a new skill that can help bring your idea to life!

Materials

I work with a variety of different materials to help you create unique products which are perfect for your needs.

Acrylic

Acrylic is a type of plastic that can be safely and easily cut on a laser cutter, and is most commonly available in 1/8” (3mm) and 1/4” (6mm) thicknesses. It is made in a variety of colours and opacities, from clear to translucent to solid, and in different finishes such as frosted or mirrored.

Clear and mirrored acrylics are always in stock, while other colours and finishes are available on a per order basis. Note: mirrored acrylics are only available in 1/8".

Engraving Materials

Other materials such as glass and marble are suitable for engraving. Certain types of metal, such as stainless steel, can be marked for engraving using a special spray, but not all metals are suitable for this process.

Please contact me if you have any questions about your materials.

Paper

Cardstock and chipboard can be cut quickly and easily with a laser, and will cut more cleanly than a blade cutter.

Please note the cutting process may leave a light scorch marks on the edges of light coloured cardstock.

Wood

Wood is suitable for both laser engraving and cutting, and comes in a couple of sub-categories:

Veneered plywood is a material with a plywood core and wood grain veneer on the top and bottom face. It is available in 1/8” (3mm) thickness and comes in a few different wood types/colours.

Unfinished plywood is like the plywood you would find in a hardware store. It is available in 1/16” (1.5mm), 1/8” (3mm), and 1/4” (6mm) thicknesses, and comes in an unfinished, light wood grain colour. It can be easily painted or stained for different purposes.

MDF stands for Medium Density Fibreboard, and is available in 1/8” (3mm) and 1/4” (6mm) thicknesses. MDF is made from wood fibres and does not have a wood grain. It can be easily painted, and since there is no wood grain it gives a smooth finish.

Light coloured veneers, unfinished plywood, and MDF in 1/8” (3mm) thickness is always in stock. Other colours and thicknesses are available on a per order basis.
